Pile Reversal / Pile Distortion

This is dark areas in the carpet caused by a change in the direction of the nap lay. Can be caused by traffic but is also sometimes caused by improper storage of the carpet. Usually appears in pivot areas. Will see light and dark areas in the carpet looking from different directions.

Cellulose Browning of Carpet

Cellulose Browning only occurs when the jute backing of your Carpet has been overwet . This then causes bleeding of lignin cellulose to the tips of the carpet yarns. This upward flow of moisture on the fibre surface during drying is referred to as wicking. For this to occur the Carpet has been overwet or taken too long to dry. Correction of Cellulosic browning can be achieved by using several cleaning agents.

Colour Change in Carpet

Pesticides found in Powders, Shampoo and flea collars can also cause colour change. Sometimes appears along baseboards. Cleaning will not remove this colour change as there has been a chemical reaction.

Carpet Soil

Up to 79% of the soil present in Carpet is of an insoluble particulate or fibrous nature. The majority of this soil generally accumulates around your main entry area into your home or office. It generally settles in the lower third part of the carpet fibre due to forces of gravity. These soils are most easily removed when they are dry by a thorough pre-vacuum with a Quality upright vacuum or a vacuum with a turbo or power head.

Mysterious Spots

At times mysterious spots appear on carpet. This can be as a result of a chemical attack on the carpet fibres. It may be that we have used a chlorine bleach or benzoyl peroxide carrier or a supermarket cleaner. Sometimes Supermarket Carpet Spot Removers can bleach the carpet as many contain small amounts of bleach. Pesticides can also affect carpet dyes.
